Seasonal Health 24 November 2021

This week we had the pleasure to speak to Sébastien Rumpler, founder of Hello Day Supplements, who explained to us how to restore energy, vitality and stimulate the immune system during transitional seasons. Hello Day is the only brand that specifically sets out to help you roll through the different seasons feeling the best you can. Read more to find out the best products suited to your needs!

We all know seasonal changes directly affect our body. How can this influence our dietary, emotional needs and energy requirements?

We are a product of nature; we sometimes forget this fundamental connection. As everything changes around us, we are changing too. In terms of diet, late spring and summer tend to be our best diets as we have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. We also tend to be more active during these seasons, which helps with digestion, energy levels and our mental wellbeing.

Autumn and winter tend to be more challenging as we turn to heavier comfort foods which can be fattier and harder to digest. The days are shorter and darker meaning less light, vitamin D and fresh air – increasing our risk of developing pesky coughs and colds. We also tend to ‘hibernate’ and become less social during the darker months, which has a negative impact on our mood and energy levels.

At Hello Day, we are the first brand to create an innovative response to seasonal challenges with our Seasonal Boxes. Each box contains four products and follows our unique ABC approach as we address digestion, energy and other compliments to seasonality. Our boxes are a generalist approach, meaning they have been designed as a universal response to seasonality, tackling issue we all face.

How can you strengthen your defenses this cold and flu season, and help your body stay healthy?

Knowledge and prevention are key. Most of us should be supplementing with Vitamin D from October to April, which supports our immune system, muscle and dental health. We can also consider useful adaptogen plants like echinacea and Siberian ginseng which can help support our immune system, energy levels and to mentally adapt to the changes. You may want to consider our IMMUNITY SHIELD sachets, which are brilliant when you feel a cold developing. They help nip it in the bud.

If we want to dig deeper, 70-80% of our immune system lives in our gut, so ensuring your gut health is well supported also helps the immune system. Have a look at our IMMUNITY SUPPORT which is a probiotic specifically designed to support the immune cells in the gut. It also contains your daily minimum dose of vitamin D3, from a sustainable algae source.

What causes bloating and what are the best ways to prevent or treat it?

There are actually many possible reasons for bloating, from IBS to acid reflux, too much salt in your diet, carbonated drinks, eating too fast, etc… Ensuring that your gut is supported with a well-balanced diet, frequent exercise and considering the additional support of pre & probiotics are fundaments that might help.

Our BIOHARMONY BALANCE has a loyal following from people who have had a range of gut discomforts and find it helpful. It contains both a prebiotic and well-researched probiotic strains. Remember, it can take a few weeks to feel the benefit, depending on your personal situation. Probiotics have three key goals: increase your good gut bacteria count, decrease bad bacteria count and help to reduce inflammation.

The transition from summer and autumn can lead to insomnia and fatigue. Why do we feel more tired and in what ways can we manage our lack of energy?

Autumn is a transition season between the sunniest months of summer and the darkest months of winter. The abundance of light and vitamin D help to elevate our mood and energy levels. Whereas the darker months can be draining and depressing. We need to proactively support our energy levels, which will positively support our sleeping patterns and vice versa. Supporting our diets with adaptogen plants like Siberian Ginseng, and Rhodiola can help keep our moods and energy levels buoyant. Let’s also remember nature’s calming mineral, Magnesium, which can support the production of serotonin and also help to elevate our moods.

If you are struggling with low moods and disturbed sleeping patterns you might want to consider our award-winning* SLEEP REST.

Why are allergies still a problem during the autumn & winter seasons?

People forget, allergies can be a year-round issue for a lot of people, like cat and dog dander or dust mites. Certain allergens release at different times of the year. In the early autumn, we experience ragweed allergies in September and October. Mold allergies are more prevalent as autumn leaves begin to decay in November and December. In January, February and March, we shut our homes to contain the warmth, meaning less air exchange which is the perfect breeding ground for dust mites.

Hello Day has an award-winning* solution to environmental allergies called IMMUNITY DEFENCE. It is the only clinically proven, completely natural, allergy solution –proven to reduce allergy symptoms in 10-15 minutes. It has no side effects, so it is a great solution for children of all ages, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. We are the UK patent-holders for this unique formulation.

You are committed to selecting the finest quality natural, environmentally friendly and active plants, vitamins and minerals. Where do you source your ingredients from?

Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We have always looked at our products using a 360-degree quality assurance approach. Our revolutionary approach is based on phytonutrition science (phytotherapy and nutrition) and developed by our panel of health experts including a doctor, pharmacist and nutritionist, harnessing the latest science. We use pharma-grade, natural ingredients and we use GMP, pharma-grade product facilities. Our products are vegan and proudly free-from: gluten, lactose, GMOs, nanoparticles, titanium dioxide, artificial colours, artificial flavours and artificial preservatives.

Your vegan Omega 3 supplement contains algae. Why is algae a good food source?

Two reasons: it’s sustainable and cleaner than most fish-based algae sources. By using algae for our Omega 3, we are actually going to the source of the Omega 3 ‘food chain’. Fish only contain Omega 3 because they eat algae. When you look at the composition of both algae and fish, you’ll see that algae contains over 18% Omega 3 compared to the less than 3% found in most fish.

Over the course of many centuries, we have heavily polluted our oceans, rivers, and lakes. Our oceans now contain a significant amount of pollution in the form of PCBs, heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides to name a few. These contaminants then find their way into the inhabitants of the sea, namely fish. When fish are processed to obtain their oils, other chemicals are usually required to remove the contaminants. Algae, grown in a controlled environment has zero contact with pollution. As a result, we are proud to say our BRAIN & HEART MAINTAIN has no trace pollutants or heavy metals and it’s 100% sustainable.

How might seasonal changes affect our skin and what can we do to keep it healthy and happy?

We need to nourish and protect our skin year-round from UV damage. In the summer months, a diet rich in antioxidants like beta-carotene and lycopene can help support the skin barrier.

In the autumn and winter months, the air is actually drier than any other time of the year. Plus our skin, hair and nails are susceptible to the frequent transitions between the cooler outdoor temperatures and the warm central heating from our homes and workspaces. Nourishing and hydrating our skin from within is the key. This is where we can be proactive with supplementation. Our BEAUTY BOOST is packed full of skin-nourishing plants, minerals, and vitamins to support collagen syntheses and overall skin/nail/hair health. Lastly, Omega 3 should be taken year-round to support the overall health of our skin.
